Four A priori
This is only about a month overdue. I said in my Christmas letter that you could read the four A priori on this blog. Well, it's taken me this long to: a) track them down from Cindy, b) get a copy of them, and c) transcribe them from a JPEG image of the sheet on which she wrote them. If you've been waiting for them (which I doubt), here they are. All the credit for them goes to Rev. Keith Poppen, a good friend, trusted counselor, and dear brother in Christ. He can explain them best of all . . .
I would love to talk with you about them over coffee sometime: my treat.
ONE • God is infinite in His Providence
God orchestrates every event in our lives – no exceptions. There is no such thing as God ‘allows’ or ‘permits.’ God doesn’t waste any energy. (Psalm 65)
TWO • God works all things together for good
Everything God does in our lives is redemptive. God is not capricious. (Romans 8:28)
THREE • We are transformed into the image of Christ through suffering
The only objective evidence of God’s love for us, outside of the person of Christ, is our suffering. That’s why we can embrace our suffering. (Romans 7:24, 8:18)
FOUR • God always works through antithesis
It has multiple dimensions. God’s ways are not our ways. God’s thoughts are not our thoughts. The heavens are higher than the earth. There is no veracity in my perception. Don’t lean on your own understanding. (Isaiah 55:6-8)
